Australian Icons
Australian Icons salutes 20 great Australian artists represented in the Art Gallery of New South Wales. Many of the finest works of art produced in this country are showcased with some 300 paintings, sculptures, and works on paper.

28 year old Melbourne artist Marcus Wills is the winner of the 2000 Brett Whiteley Travelling Art Scholarship.

Olive Cotton

The first major exhibition of Aboriginal art tracing the phenomena of the Papunya Tula movement from the early 1970s to the present.

Salvatore Zofrea
Since his first exhibition at Macquarie Galleries in 1967, Salvatore Zofrea's work has been a feature of the art of Sydney. Best known for his major mural series for Fairfax Limited, the Sydney Opera House, the former State Bank of New South Wales, Star City Casino and most recently for the NRMA, Salvatore Zofrea is also a printmaker of distinction.

The Brett Whiteley Travelling Art Scholarship 2000
In 1999 Mrs. Beryl Whiteley generously made funds available to establish the Brett Whiteley Travelling Art Scholarship. The winner of the Brett Whiteley Travelling Art Scholarship receives $25,000 and a three month residence at a studio in Paris, administered by the Art Gallery of New South Wales.
