Adam Cullen: let's get lost

Art After Hours August 08
The August 2008 Art After Hours program of events is inspired by Living Black and includes celebrity speakers Deborah Cheetham and Patrick Johnson. This month also features a concert by celebrated musician Vic Simms.

This month's program of events is inspired by ARTEXPRESS, celebrating its 25th anniversary, and the Michael Riley exhibition opening later this month. Celebrity speakers include Gretel Killeen, Miles Merrill and Linda Burney.

The annual ARTEXPRESS exhibition, one of the gallery�s most popular exhibitions, turns 25 this year. This year 62 outstanding art works were elected from over 9000 students who sat the HSC Visual Arts in 2007.

Brett Whiteley Studio Handbook
The first book on the studios of Brett Whiteley will be launched at the Brett Whiteley Studio on Thursday 13 December, 6pm. The book is a pictorial history of the artist�s studios throughout his life and features photographs never published before.

BWTAS 08 Winner
Amber Wallis from North Fitzroy in Victoria is the winner of the tenth Brett Whiteley Travelling Art Scholarship for her work 'Untitled landscape', 2007, mixed media on paper.

Cézanne auction
Australia�s most significant artists have donated works which will be auctioned at the Art Gallery of New South Wales on Monday 27 October 2008, 6pm.

Cézanne purchase
On the 19 September the Art Gallery of NSW announced it is acquiring a pivotal painting in the history of art. The work is by Paul C�zanne entitled Bords de la Marne, c1888.

Charles Bayliss: Landscape Photographer
Charles Bayliss (1850-1897) is a leading figure in Australia�s photographic heritage. The images on display document the extensive expansion into Australia�s eastern interior which reflect nineteenth century Australia�s interest in �the great pastoral life� 9 February - 25 May 2008

Genji - The world of the Shining Prince
Written in about 1008 by the court lady Murasaki Shikibu, the Tale of Genji is one of Japan�s greatest cultural achievements. Drawing together 79 art works � Genji heralds Australia�s participation in the worldwide celebration of the 1000th anniversary of this unique tale.

Harold Cazneaux: artist in photography
Harold Cazneaux (1878�1953) was Australia�s greatest pictorialist photographer who created some of the most memorable images of the early 20th century. This exhibition will include more than 100 of his iconic images, on themes such as landscape, portraits, artists� portraits, the harbour and the city, to explore the breadth and depth of his work.

Poetic Eye

Taisho chic: Japanese modernity, nostalgia and deco
This exhibition features about 70 paintings, prints, textiles and decorative arts from the Taisho and early Showa eras from 1912 to the 1930s when Western-oriented ideologues championed avant-garde tastes from Europe and America.

On loan from the Qingzhou Municipal Museum, 35 sculptures from a significant archaelogical find in 1996 of some 400 stone Buddhist sculptures from the long-destroyed Longxing (Dragon Rise) Temple in Qingzhou, China.
